For those interested, received this announcement via email: ---------------------- Please post and circulate. Recent diamond exploration in Alberta has announced some major discoveries by Montello/Kennecott. This could prove to be a major success for the advancement of minerals in Alberta and the possibility of a future diamond mine in our province. There is an upcoming talk organized by the Edmonton Geological Society that will be attanded by most of the major exploration comapnies involved, as well as support industries, government institutions and our local geological community. Everyone is invited and we welcome any support by our government representatives. Hope to see you there!

ABSTRACT "Seismic Investigation of the Buffalo Hills Kimberlite Province." The Buffalo Hills Kimberlite Province is located some 400 km north of the city of Edmonton near the hamlet of Red Earth Creek. This newly discovered Kimberlite province was first detected using data gathered from an airborne magnetic survey conducted for oil and gas exploration in 1996. The shallow high frequency magnetic anomalies were determined to be piercement structures by reflection seismic data very early on in the evaluation of the original AEC Ogston HRAM survey. The combination of magnetics, seismic data, and information gathered from the AGS report "Diamond Potential of Alberta" ARC Open File 1994-10 ultimately led AEC to stake what is now known as the "Buffalo Hills Option Block". To date some 23 kimberlite pipes have been discovered, several of which have been observed on seismic from AEC's extensive data base. The use of seismic in areas of thick sedimentary cover is proving to be a valuable tool in the reconnaissance phase of kimberlite exploration. Of the pipes observed several have been revealed complex wall rock relationships, diverse stoping patterns, variations in overburden depth based on seismic data. The seismic data, above all, provided early corroboration of initial magnetic anomalies. This presentation will also include examples of pipes discovered to data as well as a discussion of seismic methodologies, the need to model before acquisition and availability of data through the "public domain".
