Hindujas granted license to offer Internet
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has awarded a Category A ISP licence to the Hinduja Group company, IndusInd Media and Communications (IMC) for offering internet services through cable. In Cablenet with its plans to set top boxes will be among the first to offer subscriber management system in the country whereby the viewer pays according to what he watches.
BPL to offer seperate gateway to Internet
The BPL group plans to offer an independent gateway to its customers. BPL will be among the first internet operators to offer an international gateway other than VSNL. Rolta to launch Internet service in Mumbai in 1999
Mumbai-based information technology (IT) company, Rolta India, plans to launch internet services in March next year. The company is investing Rs 50 crore in the project. The company also plans to spend Rs 20 crore to set up an internet centre in Mumbai and then expand its reach in the city. Rolta recently received a licence from the department of telecom (DoT) to provide these services.
MTNL to unveil Internet services on Republic Day
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) will launch Internet services from January 26 as it has been issued a licence by the department of telecommunications (DoT). MTNL (category B licence) will become a private Internet service provider (ISP), and provide 50,000 connections each in Mumbai and Delhi.
