I wouldn't bet on a two week trial. Unlike the current hearings the Senate will have to call witnesses and compile the evidence on their own. You might want to read up on the trial of Andrew Johnson if you want to get a real sense of the scope and crisis atmosphere that can exist when this happens.

There is absolutely no chance that this will be completed by Jan 20. They won't even try. Since new members of the Senate will not take their seats until then there isn't much point in starting the trial before they are available to hear evidence.

IMO, the issue here is not "rule of law". If that's what we're worried about Clinton can be tried for violating the law when he's out of office. The impeachment is about the integrity of the office of the President and the integrity of the government. The case there is very, very weak and certainly not worth the cost that the country will pay for it.

Lastly, the issue is not simply polls. Clinton was elected to the office...twice. Removing him should not be a punishment, that's what criminal courts are for.

The country faces a huge risk from this and just what is it worth? If a President had lied when testifying about a traffic ticket(before he was elected) that's perjury, too. Should he be impeached??
