Scrapps - I was listening to the conference call from
Ascend and the question came up about Ascend's delivery
of their Rockwell based 56k modem.

Their CEO answered the question from the analyst by
saying they would deliver a 56k modem by the end of
January that was hardware upgradable. They would be
delivering a software upgradable modem near the end
of Q1.

He seemed to downplay 56k technology in general saying
that often users will often not be able to connect at
56k and calling it 56k in their conservative nature is
not appropriate, but since users will want faster speed
they will deliver the products. He also indicated most
of the companies they are talking with are not deploying
56k technology today and will wait until a standard is
developed.

Don't quote me word for word on the above, but this was
the general message.

Obviously, he is biased since USRX, HOPEFULLY, will
deliver their software upgradable modems this month.

What do you think of his points? Any validity?

Thanks - John
