Rich Weisbrich and Glen L. Peden: Even though SI is a privately owned enterprise, it is, in fact, a heavily travelled street corner on the internet. Though privately owned, it is in the public domain. It is a public forum. It is an appropriate place for political discussion.
What we are generally about on these threads is commercial speech. Yet, commercial speech is not afforded the highest protection, under the Constitution, by the rulings of the U.S. Supreme Court. Political speech is given the highest protection.

I am not uncomfortable with the political speech on these threads. I enjoy it. I think it is useful as a barometer of the political mood of one segment of our society. To me,it is a kind of straw poll.
I do think the politics that are discussed here influence the performance of the markets, including Dell's price, in very profound way. I want to know what that political sentiment is.

Tyranny begins with suppression of political views that somebody is uncomfortable with.
