Sean,
Re: physical setups.
After way too much thought, I went with a 2'x4' 4 shelf chrome wire cart from globalcomputer.com . Got the add-on slide out shelf for keyboard/desktop, put monitors 1 and 2 on a shelf positioned at elbow height (at 39" mark on the corner post but actually at 43" off floor due to 4" castors) with monitors 3 and 4 on a shelf at eye-height (also even with top of mons 1&2) at 59" mark on corner poles. The InWinQ500 is on the low shelf.
I work standing usually - helps avoid those 2pm fades (some call them thought sessions). <g> Also have a drafting chair (from Office Depot) which adjusts high enough for me to sit at the computer comfortably from time to time.
6 wires leave the cart: 1 each for 2 APC Office UPS's, CableTV for ATI AGP card, telephone lines, Cat 5 ethernet.
The castors allow me to push it to the wall for max office space. Also allows me to pull it out to get at the back of everything EASILY. Not the blind stretch the arm, turn the wrist and poke! I can also power down, unplug the five external wires, pull the cart away and run the vacuum on the dust bunny farm. Nothing is on the floor, it all rolls with the cart. Even with 4 21" monitors, the cart is solid enough to move with confidence.
I am sure it is not everybody's cup of tea, but it is what I have evolved to after 4 years of working for me, inc! I am basically happy with how it turned out, but of course will continue to tweak.
