Good point! and good pun <g>.

From a market standpoint, perhaps the best time to impeach a President is during his "lame duck" period. But back to your main question I think the Republicans are indeed committing political suicide by going against the will of the American people.

The polls since day one have consistently reflected the public's support of their President. No matter how much one criticizes the use of public opinion polls to shape policy and decision making, they are the best method of gauging the public mood.

In Canada, the once might Conservative Party (equivalent sort of to Republicans)were destroyed when they went against public opinion one too many times. They are now a fringe party. For example in one election they went from being the majority government to having only two seats in Parliament. This was the party that founded Canada. Republicans should not be so arrogant as to continue to press ahead with impeachment when the American people have no stomach for it.

etc.
