(OTOTOT) Fred!

You cannot use DOS commands to copy these drives without having special utilities. These commands do not see the Netware partitions and wouldnt copy the all-important trustee assignments that are imbedded in the Directory entries themselves!!!

So.....

Fred, if the old drive still works and you can install a second larger drive onto the system then its actually somewhat easy. Once the second drive is physically installed and operational, perform the following steps:

1) Create a small DOS partition (equal to the amount of memory you have + about 15Meg) with FDISK. Format this DOS partition as a BOOTABLE drive (i.e. Format d: /s). (you need to do this because once the old drive is removed , this drive will be your primary drive and must be bootable upon startup). Then from the DOS prompt, copy all the files from Drive C: to drive D: (including all the subdirectories).

2) start up NetWare and create a partition on this drive from the remaining free space. Then create a SYSTEMP: volume that takes up the space on this partition. (this will be your new big SYS: volume).

3) Mount the new SYSTEMP: volume.

4) Download a program from support.novell.com called TCOPY.EXE and put it on a workstation that will login to the server.

5) Log into the server and MAP a drive to ROOT of both volumes. (i.e. SYS: will be P: and SYSTEMP: will be Q:).

6) From the ROOT of P: run the NCOPY P:*.* Q: /S command. This will copy all the files from SYS: to SYSTEMP: (will likely take quite long). (MAKE SURE EVERYONE ELSE IS LOGGED OFF THE SYSTEM FROM NOW UNTIL COMPLETION OF THE REMAINING STEPS).

7) Then from the ROOT of P: run the TCOPY P:*.* Q: /S command. This will copy all the trustee assignments to the new files on the new drive.

8) Once both commands are finished, go to your console and rename SYS: to SYSOLD: and reaname SYSTEMP: to SYS: (This is done in the LOAD INSTALL utility under volumes and pressing F3).

9) Once both volumes have been renamed then down the server and remove the old drive from the system (keep around in case things dont work out). Boot up the system from floppy and by using FDISK, mak this new drive the active drive (it might even happen automatically without using FDISK - so try simply booting up).

10) The server should restart at bootup and everything should be as normal. TEST all your applications and your printing to make sure everything worked. Keep the old drive around for a while just in case.
