Yes -
Given the pounding that Earl Mason took last spring when he failed to drop the right 'hints' about 1Q98 problems, CPQ would not have taken this step unless they were pretty confident about the 4Q numbers. Got to be good news.

The rumor mill at CPQ is spun up in high gear at the moment but there is no consistency to the stories. Maybe there is a big reorg about to be announced. Maybe there is a spinoff of some piece of DEC - maybe AV, maybe the VAX business, maybe a piece of the service business. Maybe no spinoff, it's an acquisition. Maybe its an internet company. Maybe its a communications company.

But the sense is that something big is going on - all of the senior VPs are seen going in and out of Bldg. 11 along with Ben Rosen and a lot of the board. Also everybody seems to be smiling, joking with each other. The mood seems infectious, and a lot of the middle managers are catching the 'be happy' disease.

SHE on the Yahoo thread seems to have pretty good G2 on CPQ, maybe SHE has an idea of what's really happening. All I get is a sense that things are on the move.
