Robt,

Very interesting post. I would presume that MPEG Assoc was given
as a reference to Herb by Marc Cohodes. Is the implication that
Rocker Partners "helped" form the MPEG Assoc? But why would
any hedge fund bother to go through all that just to establish/or
maintain a short position? From 73 to 22 back to 50 down to 35,
it would seem the hedge funds have had plenty of profit already.
Why go through all of that just to squeeze out the last few dollars?

In any event, thank you for your fine detective work.

Now back to CUBE:

In early 1996 Alex B said the average selling price of VCD players
were in the $400-$350 range. During the July 16 conference call
he said the prices were now down to $300-$250. And now from
the last conference call he is saying the average selling price is
now down to $150-$120 (Can any one verify this?)

For me, it seems inconceivable that the average selling price for VCD
can collapse 50% while CUBE's margin has actually risen during the
same period of time (54%, 54%, 55%, 56%)? How can that be? Has
the product mix changed so much that the encoder business is
becoming a larger percentage of revenue?

Appreciate any thought.
