OTOT Fred Your right that the DOS partition will only be approx 100Meg in size so DOS limitation dont apply. NetWare doesnt have those limitations. If your server is real old and you plan on using an IDE controller, you should likely need an EIDE controller with the much larger drive. I would also strongly suggest that you buy a second drive (similar in capacity to the new drive) and link it on and Mirror the drive (setting up mirroring on NetWare takes only seconds). For the VERY small price of another drive it will save you a TON of worry and future potential grief. Its not a matter of IF a drive fails, its more like WHEN will the drive eventually fail. As for Y2K, you need to patch the 3.12 to be Y2K compliant. There are a ton of patches that you have missed but other than the Y2K patch, if your system has not had any problems over all these years, dont worry about your other patches. Just make sure that the patches for Y2K is eventually applied. PS - DO NOT APPLY PATCHES while your going through this process! Logic demands that you stabilize your system on the new drive. After a few weeks or even an month then focus on the patch upgrade. TinSoldier - Trust me, it will likely work. I have done it a couple times before (although I havent used NetWare 3.12 in a little while). I would personally avoid these 3rd party utilities. As you know, you cannot change a NetWare partition on a drive once it is set (you can only increase a volume on a partition - if there is free space left on the partition). Also remember that you can span a volume over several partitions/drives although I personally dont like that idea since if any drive in the volume dies, the whole volume dies. And again, I'll say it - MIRROR YOUR VOLUMES! It costs sooo little! As for long name spaces on NetWare 3.12 - I am a bit rusty on 3.12 but you can implement long name spaces by adding the OS2 name space to the volume. Same thing as LONG name space. Good Luck! Toy
