I've never at all said that all those who are for impeachment are socially intolerant biggots. I don't believe that's the case. But by pursuing Clinton, the GOP appears to be catering to the most extreme elements within the party rather than reaching out to the Brave New America of the 21st Century. I'm not saying Clinton is a saint and should not be punished. I'm saying that in the absence of popular outrage or bipartisan support, the impeachment makes the GOP look beholden to the Christian Coalition and the Gary Bauers of the party. I'm saying for the health of their own party, they would be wise to drop this matter and radically refocus their efforts on reaching out to the populations they have traditionally alienated.

' George W. Bush appears to have gotten the message. He's pretty much mum on impeachment. Someone on this thread, I think it was Daniel Schuh, said it will take the Republicans three or four election cycles to get the message, just as it took Democrats a few lost elections to realize that their socially liberal big-government ideas were a lost cause.
