I posted this a while ago but I liked it so perhaps you have some comment. (following a WSW show)
Our beloved pundit and guide for the common man(nee, investor), Rukeyser! Yes he places the analysts in the right light. But in addition one should, if the opportunity is there, to watch some of them speak! Let's look at the queen of predictions, the golden crystal ball, the public relations princess, E. Garzarelli. Did you see her talk on CNBC a couple of months ago?? When, as a prelude to selling her advice letter, she made her startling prediction about an immediate and devastating market decline!( I guess she will be right sometime) Reminded me of a first year class in med school neurology, when you study nervous tics. People get nervous on live TV. A raised eyebrow with a closed lid, a slight twitching of the lip, a tilt of the head and a twitch, a blink, a twitch, a muscle spasm, a nod, a facial grimace and....., ok., you get the idea. Maybe, she was nervous, uptight, unsure, under the scope??? Or....maybe really visionary???1996...1997....... 1998...??? WHEN IS IT COMING?? The setting at her Easthampton home, with her girlfriend's guitar in the background, gives it some panache. She speaks well, jittery, slippery and has INDICATORS!! She has indicators!!..... Statistics... and.... indicators. Wow! I don't have those...indicators.
I would like to look the analysts in the eye when they tell you this stuff about indicators,.. trends,.. analysis....wow.
Now it is 1/18/97, 1300+ points later on the Dow, and you still hear cnbc introduce her as: " The one who called the 1987 crash". GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Where in the hell does anybody in their right mind get off saying that as a valid point of reference anymore!!! I even once had a 80-1 shot at Belmont come in, by mistake! (1989) Haven't won since. (Neither has Elaine!!)
CNBC and company you should be ashamed putting her on your interview schedule and think you have credibility!! |
