Here is a interesting post about Sun.

Message 6784942
I was in a meeting today with Sun Microsystems' CTO, Norman Koo, and he would disagree with you 100%. He has to be one of the most brilliant men I've ever met, and certainly one of the wisest, and he said that approaching the world as if you have to protect your technology from competitors is old thinking. We're moving into a new world. One with open standards, open interfaces, open protocols. If by cooperating you can bring your products to a wider market, then everyone wins.

Now lets see how this will unfold. MS has secret OS that they change ever so often and they only release the new updates or parts of it to the obedient software developers or will Suns open Java standards in which ever developer is able to use and develop products that will compete against the mighty MS and not be worrying about not getting the new upgrades.Do you think MS would use it custom Java the way it uses it present OS? I think so.
Simply stated does a software developer want to be controlled by MS which in turn controls the average computer user?
