Congratulations Qualcomm! You're getting into the spirit of the Ericsson game with this latest press release.

It's too bad that it seems to be required, but in all seriousness I don't see how Qualcomm could have avoided it. Just like the Ericsson releases, it says one thing to the layman (i.e. reporters) and yet really says something else entirely. (i.e. it appears concilliatory and helpful, while really telling Ericsson to shove it where the sun don't shine in regards to the chip rate.). And the WSJ article to which this post is a response is the first evidence that the press release worked.

PS The subtle, but most important, piece of the press release is that it makes reference to the fact that the majority of the telecom companies are already working towards a compromise but without Ericsson. The only problem is that now that Qualcomm is being more sophisticated you have to take their press releases with a grain of salt. The release would lead you to believe that there is a formal group which Ericsson is not part of, but it may be just a group which Qualcomm believes is more amenable to true compromise.
