John Rosser had some excellent comments on this article, both here and on the CPQ thread. Susan Pulliam got a lot of stuff wrong. But the article reflects sentiment, and that sentiment is obviously shifting. There could never have been an article like this in 1H98.

One indisputable fact that was correctly portrayed in the article is that the bar is much lower for CPQ than for DELL. DELL has no margin for error, they must execute perfectly. CPQ just has to not screw up too badly. There is a huge difference in the likely outcome given that perception.
