Just to add to Peter's post. I speculate that my generation (currently 24) will start investing based on these observations in my investment class.

1) increased enrollment in these types of classes, my instructor told me that this particular investment course has been gaining popularity and the school is thinking about opening up another section.

2) the current enrollment in this class is approx. 50 people which is fairly large for this school (the class is also 3 hours long and people are willing to take out this much time for the course)

3) the teacher took a survey in class (mostly people in the 25-30 years old range) and asked why they want to learn about various investment vehicles ? The response was that they realize uncertainly in social security benefits and want to start saving early.

Although this group of people in no way is representative of all members of my generation, however, it is easy to argue that younger people of my generation are more interested and want to learn more about investing than perhaps, the previous generation in their twenties.

This bodes well to drive the stock market.
