Travel*Star Update

Radio Shack sales have been moving along. ULTR has a display with a unit (with preset location to show GPS features) in six Dallas and six Minneapolis stores. they don't keep a large number of units in stock, but order to fill stock as they sell units. orders have been coming in, but it's spotty. (there are also catalogue sales). my WAG is that ULTR may sell a couple thousand travel*star units this quarter. however, if Radio Shack picks up the product for nationwide distribution; we're talking an initial order in the 10's of thousands of units, which could be really big for '99. can you imagine 50,000 units at $200? that's $10 million in revenue.

Travel*Star II -- a single unit (GPS and control unit combined) with voice, should be out in time for the las vegas show. this could be the big winner. (much less cumbersome than having the separate GPS unit.)

the Talon marriage -- seems to be working out really well. ULTR can command a much better price from its chip supplier than talon was getting for chips used both in travel*star and talon's other GPS
products (marine). this means better pricing and higher profits across the board.

road whiz sales are obviously going well, and there have been follow on orders from k-mart. also, another version of roadwhiz is selling on home shopping network.

the idea of monte going back on qvc may be a false alarm -- or the person i talked with at the company is keeping tight to his vest. but i confirmed the QVC sales are going well above 92,000 units.

palmnet/e@symail is beta testing right now. it should be featured at the vegas show.

also featured at the vegas show will be AAA brand roadwhiz. initial marketing will be to AAA's 40 million members. (end of 1Q98, beginning of 2Q98.) commercial distribution should follow by mid-99.
