Hi AC, Wrong! Dispatches from the
Front: Not Going Negative

By James J. Cramer

I'm giving out knives here to cut through the
negativity. You need a machete to slice through
this one, I am afraid.

Yet, for me, it seems right to stand there and get
whacked by methodical sellers who have lost
conviction and are fearful of the weekend. I find
myself bidding underneath for Lucent (LU:NYSE)
and General Electric (GE:NYSE) -- dumb put
buyers out there -- and thinking about taking some
more Cisco (CSCO:Nasdaq) and Ascend
(ASND:Nasdaq).

It is the negativity you are fighting here. Because
stocks have come down. In fact, some have come
down a great deal. I don't fear the bonds as an
equity holder. If anything, I want interest rates go
higher if only to get a little more slope to the yield
curve.

Or I guess I could just go negative like everybody
else, buy some Morgan Stanley Hi Tech 35 puts
and start rooting against the Dells (DELL:Nasdaq)
and the Intels (INTC:Nasdaq) as everyone else
seems to be doing. But I can't. Because unlike
Coke (KO:NYSE) and Gillette (G:NYSE), the
earnings are too good in tech. Guess I am
old-fashioned. I need a reason to sell.
