Jeff Vayda. I echo the other answer. You asked the wrong thing to the wrong person who thought you were talking about something else; there was a lack of communication. Qcom's answer was correct.

Sprint PCS system does not use, and Sprint stores do not sell, the Q-800, which uses a difference frequency than Sprint. Sprint uses 1900 mhz., that is, the Q-1900. The store fellow was not knowledgeable and confused by your question. Second, the new Q-1900 with the new plastic is out and should now be available at most Sprint stores.

The Q-800 was not recalled; indeed, the problems in the Q plastic were corrected prior to Q-800's entry on the shelves. The Q-1900 was not produced for some period of time while the Q-800 was being introduced to the market--due to the need for a cdma Q that would operate in cdma and analog on Airtouch and some other systems.

There is nothing wrong with the Q-1900 software; the latest batch of Q-1900 were shipped to the Sprint stores without the software; the software arrived a little later, and the Sprint personnel merely install it when you buy the phone. My guess is that the software was not quite ready or a glitch was found, so Qcom shipped the phones. Delivering the software is a simple matter and takes a lot less time than shipping phones. Indeed, you can take an old phone in and Sprint will update your phone's firmware with the latest software update.
