Gosh, it's hard to just step in to the middle of a conversation. Especially when you have nothing to add, but just want to say hi, how are you guys...It's like walking into a party and there are all these groups talking and you either stand there alone or you pick a group and stand on the perimeter and start laughing when everyone else does, even though you don't have a clue what they're talking about. Don't you just hate that? This is on my mind becuase I'm leaving in a minute for the infamous Office Christmas Party. I am dressed all corporate wifey (elegant, yet dignified). I can't drink because I can;t say anything strange, and I have to remember names which I don't do well even with people I know, like when I first see my children in the morning, it takes a minute.."Oh yeah, you're---Aaron, no, Andrew--no....just give me a minute..." At the swim meet the other night, a new parent came in and one of the moms said to me "Do you know her?" I said, Oh yes, that's Nancy so-and so and she said,'Good, you can introduce me." And as soon as she said that, her name was gone. I KNEW her name until then. So then Nancy came over and I sat there like a fool, until the other woman whom I've known for two years, said,"Hi, I'm Nancy." And I thought oh yeah, that's right. Her name's Nancy, too.
Well, now that I've given myself this little peptalk, I guess we'll go. Have a nice evening, you lucky people. At least people's names are written at the top of the post so you know who's talking here. Not like nametags. I hate nametags. You can't LOOK at them; it's so obvious. So you pretend to see someone in back of them, "Oh look there's Nancy!" and you let your eyes slide by the nametag and hope you catch it... Well, boy am I excited now. |
