Jay,

I looked at the charts for U and AMR. The only way to play them short was the way you did. My mistake.

But they got so creamed in the gap down, it was going to be hard to get any more out of them on the short side. They both actually had pretty narrow ranges- that seems to be what I observe with gap downs on NYSE issues.
