"..They are also trying to present themselves as an internet company. Did you see that stupid comercial they are running. They show a picture of various consumer products in rapid succession followed by the words .COM Then at the end of the commercial a voice says "At SUN we power the Internet"
You may want to read some history about the internet and how it got started and Sun's role in its development - there is an excellent documentary on PBS which highlights Sun's role pbs.org they didnt interview Lew Platt from HP or Pfeiffer from Compaq. Yes these computers are used on the internet but they dont power the vast majority of ISP and ecommerce sites like Sun does and are just beginning to mimic Sun's philosophy of "Web as Utility model" - if any company can say that they power the Web - Sun can both from its early involvement and current position.
As far as the .Com commercials go they highlight that any commercial site that is going to depend on the internet shouldnt have to reboot when they load new software - ebay, amazon, infoseek, excite, AOL, uunet, BBN, geocities, digex, att, cyberian outpost, etrade, schwab, cisco, lucent and ten of the top 12 ISP's understand this - and any company which is going to do business on the web shouldnt trust their business to a gussied up home computer - what's stupid about that? |
