Timothy,

Not exactly sure about the 50% potential slowdown on a ISDN line. Of course you have two b channels that can be combined for 128kbps. I'm currently running a 64k connection because my ISP is in the process of changing from US Worst to ELI.
My ISDN installer was pretty good. Made sure we had the correct voltage and we ran a self diagnostic test with my U.S.Robotics TA and we were on the ISDN network. Only problem was getting Win95 Dial up networking configured in order to log onto my ISP's network but the" kid" (my teenage son) got it working. He has a real knack for figuring these things out.
US West, oop's Worst that is, did indeed set me up with a "business" account. I had no choice. Now I hear that Pacific Bell has done the same thing to customers and are changing peoples accounts. I am going to look into this for sure.
I have wrote my Gov't reps in D.C. about the RBOC'S on the subject of thier wanting to "tax" the ISP's to help them pay for upgrading their networks to handle the huge increase in bandwith. They could seriously damage the very existance of the internet as we know it, or should I say "could" know it.
MCI for one has offered the RBOC crybabies to handle the network problem for .them. But that would require the RBOC's to give up some turf in their local areas and they won't do it ever. Competition is heavy and AT&T is moving in my area to compete with US Worst. I'm happy about it because US Worst is almost as pathetic as TCI Cablevision in "developing" oppurtunities for their customers.
Cable modems and ADSL are going to compete and both have hurdles to get over. We may see a pick up in Satellite if they can get the price down, and the confusion of their billing practice. People when their surfing don't think about the size of the Web pages their downloading and the satellite system charges in terms of how much your downloading. Also the Direct pc system is only one way. You still need a phone line to upload.
ATM is taking off. I know the backbone companies are investing big in it.
ISDN is going to increase in usage quite a bit because US Worst is one of the companies that is suppose to have further price reductions.
And lets not forget about 56kbps technology. Looks like U.S.Robotics is going to be the first to market with it and there will be 56k standard developed, hopefully soon. I'm sure you know all about the 56k battle about to happen.
I am going to compare my ISDN connection to 56k but with a pending drop in price, plus it's nice to have digital voice and data at the same time, I doubt I'm giving my ISDN line up soon.
Timothy, I gotta run but lets some more discussions on this thread.

Regards
Derek
