These guys never give up. First the NC, now this. The idea of a small appliance running a non-standard OS which supports windows apps is not new, but no one has been able to make it work. I have played with Linux w/shells, BeOS, and other attempts on this front, some of the implementations are really pretty good. CPQ continues to do research in this area (as do the other OEMs). But Oracle has a terrible track record in this area - they have little understanding of mass marketing or the consumer space.

If any product like this gets any traction, I would expect CPQ to hammer it with a better cheaper product within weeks... there is just no good reason for CPQ to do this on its own. AOL is the mystery player here - if Sun has gotten some quid pro quo for their involvement in the NSCP deal, things could get interesting, since AOL could drive a lot of volume.
