PC UNIFICATION, REMOTELY -- TOOL HELPS AUTO SELLER STANDARDIZE
Dec. 11, 1998 (InformationWeek - CMP via COMTEX) -- Republic Industries Inc. has chosen On Command Comprehensive Client Manager, a desktop-management tool from On Technology Inc., to help in its PC standardization process.
The $18 billion auto sales and rental company began standardizing on Dell Computer NetPC desktops and notebooks in September, and expects to have 2,000 users in its Fort Lauderdale, Fla., headquarters equipped with the new machines by year's end. Republic is using On Command CCM to remotely deploy and manage all operating systems and applications, as well as configure hard drives. "When you have thousands of machines, it's a lot of effort to have IT people go out to each PC in person with floppy disks" to install and upgrade software, says VP of IT Keith Holcomb. "On Command lets us do this from a central location, saving us time and money." |
