FWIW,

Vivus is now merely a small R&D biotech company that unlike many small biotechs also produces its own product.

Nothing to do with sales.
Nothing to do with marketing.
Nothing to do with "promoting" itself.
No spin doctoring--still being sued for supposedly doing so thus it often acts like it doesn't want to make any news.

The future of Vivus lies in future R&D products and OTHER COMPANIES MARKETING AND SELLING THEIR PRODUCTS.

Thus the longer term future of Vivus rests on Wilson's ability to negotiate a decent deal with a domestic partner.

I want a great partnership deal signed now just like all of us.

I don't want a mediocre deal signed now which will hurt future revenues later in time.

The second largest pharma sales market in the world ie Japan is still sitting idle as dead money for Vivus. Japan is a negotiating card for Vivus but if it is not used in negotiating a domestic partner it can be a big money maker for Vivus down the road if Vivus cuts a deal with another big pharma company that has a strong presence in Japan.
I was told that after whatever happens with a domestic partner, if Japan is not used as a negotiating card it will be used to cut a seperate deal. Vivus will play no part in Japan except to collect unit sales after someone else takes over.
