Carl, I was under the impression that Cyrix will release a 180 and 200 first, while Intel will release a 233 and 266. If your comparisons are accurate, Cyrix will be out the door with the fastest cpu come June.

I think you will see CPU marks are faster with the Intel chips, but faster bus speeds for Cyrix will result in Cyrix being the fastest chips for I/O data intensive operations. I also think that the hooker here will be the Cyrix implimentation of MMX. If it is as good as we are hoping, the Intel context shifting penality for MMX enabled software will result in far superior Cyrix performance. Given that MMX software will start to become available in larger numbers by summer, we could all be in for a pleasant surprise. Imagine game fans finding out that Cyrix, their old whipping post, turns out to be their fastest chip alternative until 1998 when Intel MMX2 (= Cyrix MMX) becomes available.
