>>>This will be the end of the Republican party<<<

NOT! If the Republican party survived the idiotic impeachment of Andrew Johnson they will survive the current impeachment too. Having once, tried to impeach their own.

"Just how to go about the mending was what led to Johnson's epic clash with the so-called Radical Republicans, who preferred much harsher treatment of the rebels than did the president. The culmination was impeachment -- a constitutional showdown between two branches of government.

It was a matter of substantially more heft than whether the president told an alleged mistress to tell a fib.

That Johnson was even in a position to be impeached is a credit to his drive. Born in Raleigh, N.C., Johnson moved to Greeneville, Tenn., before he was 20 and established himself a tailor. He never attended school but still managed an incredible run up the political ranks -- from alderman to mayor to state representative to U.S. senator to governor.

Johnson, like many others in mountainous East Tennessee, where rich slave-holders were relatively few, ardently believed in the Union. Lincoln, looking for a way to reconcile the country, tapped the Tennessean as his running mate in 1864."
