Either Priority Brokerage or Etrade seem the brokerage of choice right now.

- Do I get a confirmation of that trade right away?
Sometime they are within 20-30 seconds sometimes a few minutes. The confirmation time is not always the same. If you are watching the stock live you normally can figure out if you got filled since you see a trade come from your house that was the same size as your bid/ask. However you need to be careful using that approach because it isn't 100% accurate.

- Commission structure
Every online brokerage has a different structure. Some go by percentages, some buy cents/share, etc., etc.,. To see all broker prices go to ndir.com

Depending on the type of trade - Priority and Etrade have the best price

- If I trade within a self admin. RSP - what then?
There is no difference other than you RSP money is in another account. However you can't use margin or short from you RSP. In addition, you must have no more than 20% foreign content. Other than that speed, price, etc. is the same between accounts

- Trading Can/US stocks, any difference?
The cost for trading U.S stocks is normally 50% more than Canadian stocks and usually takes longer to get a fill. As for trading styles - although many of the trading patterns are the same, trading U.S is a completely different game since different factors move the stocks (for example being mentioned on MSNBC will boost a stock by 10% normally)

- Time it REALLY takes to complete a trade (IE: I can confirm a trade right on the phone with a broker "okay you just bought 5000 shares of xyz" Is there any serious lag time with ON LINE trading?

Depending on your broker, if you stay on the phone to confirm your trade it is normally slightly faster than online. However sometimes the phone is busy and it always cost more. A lot of people (i.e Chief) trade through the phone because they consider the net a little to slow. I personally trade through the net and although I have had some bad experiences all in all it is not to bad.

- Can't possibly do a demo version of this I guess?

Not really sure what you mean by a demo version. Sign up for an online broker and try a couple of trades. With Etrade you print off one form from the net and mail it in. You will have you trading password a couple of days later. If you don't like it, cancel your account.

Hope this helps

Best Regards
KEITH
