Jim -
DELL has been working with Oracle for sometime to sell preconfigured DELL Oracle database servers.
Interesting post. I assume you are aware that this capability builds on a piece of technology co-developed by CPQ and Oracle called the 'oracle system sizer'. This work was completed in summer of '96. CPQ got a 1 year exclusive on use of the product (as well as co-ownership rights on the code). When the exclusive expired, oracle moved to get it into more OEMs.

BTW, CPQ has more than 60% of the Oracle on NT installed base and better than 50% of new installs. Typical setup times using this technology are a few hours - one of the reasons CPQ captured such a big share of that business.
