All Right Mqurice.....

How about we give you equal access to (buy) our technology.

Mika is correct that the audience for whom most of this debate is playing are existing and wannabe carriers. Behaving belligerently by seeking to destroy the value of their past investments is not the obvious way to win their business.

The chiprate will be 3.6x because there appears to be no real performance benefit to shifting to some other parameter and as far as I can tell this is the place where CDG draws the line. There must be some similar situation for GSM which might require these "multi-modal" handsets. They will settle because there is no real alternative for the industry. I find it very hard to believe that any meaningful aspect of this issue will be decided in court.

Q will gain "equal access" to the market in that they ( and NT,LU,MOT)will have as good a chance as anyone to win the NTT contract for example. They will also be able to vie for GSM upgrade business on an "equal" footing. Q will indeed have to give too. They've already given on the vocoders, there will be other gifts also, like reduced royalty rates.

VMan.. I would HATE to lose the stand alone growth potential but a "merger" with NOKIA would really create a dynamo.

Hoping and betting that a "rational outcome " will be achieved which would put us somewhere between Better and Best in your scheme.

Dave
