I don't understand your point. Rambus' DRDRAM is still just memory, just dumb storage hardware, with no associated microcode or software in it, so how can a computer using it not be backward compatible with anything? It would be like some breakthrough in registers or ALUs, also made up of nothing but hardware, making the computer using them not backward compatible. I believe Rambus' claim to fame is faster data rate, or bandwidth, so, again, there should be no compatibility issue with anything because of that. What am I missing?
