Doug,

I think the Maxam/IPm merger would be an outstanding deal for both parties alike. As it has been pointed out the majors are acquiring and probably for a reason but who knows for sure. If the POG goes very high then I am sure that there will be many extraction processes that will be viable and if the company has a bankable resource then forward sales would gaurentee a profitable operation.

OFF TOPIC

<<voltage = amperes x ohms ?>> YES
<<watts = ?>> = voltage squared/ohms or current squared x ohms

<<A transformer (2 coils close to each other, with one hooked up to an ac source), this is used to change 120 volts to lower for like a telephone answering machine ? If so, then the energy transfered must be equal, so if energy is measured with voltage and current, then are the ratios of the coils used to determine the new values ? If so, is it linear or is current squared ?>>
It is totally dependent on the coil winding ratio between the primary and the secondary and all losses. There will always be power losses due to the air gap. In a theoretical world the power between the primary and the secondary remain equal and voltage is directly proportional to the ratio of the windings while the current is directly improportional to the ratio.

<<Inductance, if a straight gold wire, very cold, had near zero ohms resistence, and then coiled next to another, the formula to determine voltage and current is ? Might be some smoke and mirrors or wacko stuff, if a-c voltage and current not in phase.>>
Don't confuse the two terms resistance and impedance. The formulas change between AC and DC because you now have an added factor of frequency. Inductive reactance = 2(3.1414)(frequency)(Inductance). In any kind of semiconductor voltage and current are always out of phase. In the case of an inductor/transformer voltage always leads current. A transformer serves two main purposes. Change an AC voltage or provide electrical isolation between the primary and secondary circuits.

Does that help?
