In case anyone thought that our good friend Brian Hook was softening towards his old employer, here is his response to a TNT vs. Voodoo2 question in today's "Ask Grandmaster B":

============================
GMB's Response: The reasons that the V2 would outperform a TNT on Half-Life and
Unreal are different. For HL, it's because Valve shipped with a modified version of
the 3Dfx minidriver. By relying on 3Dfx to upgrade their minidriver they get top notch
performance, but in the process they're hurting the entire rest of the industry that
desires to see a high quality OpenGL out of 3Dfx. By using 3Dfx's chumpy minidriver
Valve is effectively encouraging 3Dfx's inability to ship a complete OpenGL driver.

For Unreal, it sounds like you're comparing Unreal's Glide performance vs. the TNT's
OpenGL performance. This isn't necessarily a valid comparison, since Unreal was
designed with Glide and V2 in mind, and OpenGL support was somewhat of an
afterthought (from what I understand).

The man is overly obsessed with hating the minidriver IMHO.
