Oh good, I'm glad you've learned about the "market order at the open" trap. Sorry for the lengthy didactic response!

All I know is that when I place market orders with Waterhouse, it doesn't matter what the volume is, I often don't know I've completed the trade until many minutes later. Because of this, I almost exclusively use limit orders.

I hadn't heard about market orders taking precedence over limit orders. Maybe another thread member can address this.
