Merrill Lynch....
raised FY99 estimate from 0.75 to 0.85, and FY00 estimate from 1.13 to 1.20. These revisions resulted from a stronger than anticpated ATE market and VTSS' continued performance in the sector. The report (available in PDF format so I can't copy it, sorry) went on to describe the "duel" between GaAs and SiGe. ML believes, in accordance with many on this thread, that SiGe will impact RF devices (ANAD, TQNT) moreso than SONET counterparts. The technology will most likely be implemented for 10 Gbit/s speeds and poses no threat to VTSS for a good three or four years. However, SiGe's ultimate success lies in the long-term future, as did GaAs's in the 1980s. For now, VTSS is safe from the highly-touted SiGe. (ALL ACCORDING TO THE LATEST ML REPORT, NOT MY OWN FABRICATION!)
