Don, I read your interesting post to Franz and Jim and I'm compelled to respond to your notions of OBJECTIVITY, (I took those large caps from your post)... I might agree with your statement that Apple doesn't have to win a war with Microsoft to be successful, but herein lies the crux of the problem.... They've lost the war!!!!.....Secondly, it's spelled NICHE not nitch... if you want to consign a computer giant to niche marketing when there's already a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR investment in trying to compete as a major player.... you display a lack of objectivity my friend.. I'm not saying that Apple doesn't have good products but your niche market scenario is seriously flawed because a computer giant CANNOT turn things around by selling equipment to a few thousand graphical designers...you realize that, of course you do... Being objective as a successful investor means "making the trend your friend".... the tide is clearly AGAINST Apple and it's largely due to consumer PERCEPTION that Apple is a LOSER!!!! and if you're not a complete idiot you know that rightly or wrongly perception IS reality....Apple may have nice computers and Gil Amelio maybe be someone I'd like to have as a buddy, but the bottom line is that Apple lost $120,000,000 last quarter.... and it's gonna get worse!!! These are objective facts... Painting a happy face on Apple's prospects is not being objective... You may know that Apple's senior debt rating has been lowered from a B+ to B... thats an objective fact... that comes in the aftermath of Apple's floating $575,000,000 in junk bonds this past summer in an attempt to raise cash...thats an objective fact.....now, what is subjective is open to interpretation... like the interpretation on Steve Jobs coming back to Apple... and if you want my spin on that I'll give you my thoughts in another post... |
