New Electric Fuel Marine Lifejacket Light Receives IMO SOLAS Approval

- First Water-Activated Battery Light to be Certified Under New International Regulation -

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Safety Products Division of Electric Fuel Corporation (Nasdaq: EFCX - news) today announced that the United
States Coast Guard (USCG) has certified the Company's model WAB-MX8 Lifejacket Light as meeting the 1998 requirements of the Safety of Life at Sea
(SOLAS) Convention of the International Marine Organization (IMO).

Electric Fuel's WAB-MX8 is the first lifejacket light using water-activated batteries to receive the new international certification for marine use. To date, all other
products approved under the new regulation, which took effect July 1, 1998, have been based on commercial primary lithium batteries, which can pose safety and
environmental problems during transport, use and disposal.

The WAB-MX8 is built from two patented Electric Fuel 1.6 volt magnesium-cuprous chloride cells, and provides a brilliant bright white light of more than 0.75
candle throughout the upper hemisphere of the lens, for a minimum of eight hours following activation in water. The battery has an expiration date of five years after
the date of manufacture.

The SOLAS certificate allows Electric Fuel to sell the new light for use aboard cruise ships, ferries, cargo ships, workboats and offshore platforms worldwide. In
anticipation of receiving the approval, Electric Fuel showcased the new lights at its booth at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS '98) held in Amsterdam in
November, and at the International Workboat Show in

New Orleans during the first week of December. According to a spokesman for the Company's Safety Products Division, the reactions of distributors and
customers to the new product have been very positive. The Company is now ramping up for production of the new lights, and first deliveries are expected to be
made in February 1999.

Other lifejacket lights in Electric Fuel's line include a USCG-approved light for use on inland waterways, as well as for pleasure craft, and lights approved by the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for commercial aircraft.

Electric Fuel Corporation (www.electric-fuel.com), with corporate offices in New York City and manufacturing and R&D facilities in Jerusalem, Israel and in
Auburn, Alabama, is pioneering the use of zinc-air battery technology for electric vehicles, consumer electronic products, and industrial applications.

NOTE: This press release contains forward-looking statements. There are certain important factors that could cause results to differ materially from those anticipated
by the statements made above as set forth in the Company's annual report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 1997. Among, but not limited to
these factors, are the stage of development of the Company's products, the uncertainty of the market for lifejacket lights and significant future capital requirements.
