Interesting to hear they are using Terayon in your area.

The Terayon is a solution for areas that have not been upgraded. It is a way to get high speed service like Optimum in place on a traditional coax tree and branch network. When I look at all the promotional information for Optimum however, it states they will use LANCity to provide the service. And of course that has to be on fully upgraded, 2 way cable plant.

It sounds to me like they are "sneaking in" Terayon to offer service in some locations where they haven't or won't be doing an upgrade. I guess I just forgot the reality of there is an exception to every rule.

I would be very surprised if they were using Terayon in an upgraded HFC plant system. Let me know if you can find out if that is the case in your area. If they have recently upgraded, they may not want to go to the expense of changing out modems they put in place before the upgrade either since Terayon will work in both plant environments very well.
