I run our school intranet site, content includes: daily buletin technical support details links to search sites general web links departmental sites (The IT department is the only one to add content to this area) Students sites (This is still in the early days) And as far as I know very few students or teachers look at it.
If you are not talking about web site type intranets and the logging on get work type then: We use 4 (NT) servers (2 file servers, 2 proxy servers (one behind another)) while 100s of Win95 stations are used by everyone else. We use in built security software which our network administrator and us (Technical Support - A group of super nerds who help admin the network) developed in Visual Basic, we use restrictions on programs and each user belongs to a profile group (admin, students, staff) each with their own level of permissions. There are three main 'drives' that students and staff use H (home areas) P (Public, staff post work for students to complete, clipart etc) and S(I don't know what it stands for but any one can dump work there, its a sort of place to put homework that the teachers can get access to). Our security is very tight, student areas are scanned for exe's, zips, wavs, avis etc very reguarlly. (Usually all come from the web)
I hope this helps in any way, if not Oh well. |
