Nupe, It's you who is not getting it.
You said <<In other words, it is not that you ascribe virtue to yourself (i.e., truthfulness), but that you impute vice (i.e., love of lies & deceit) to others!>>
You must have missed my comments:
<<I ask the same of everyone else.>>and <<...as I expect it is with all caring people.>> You see, I believe there are people, hopefully lots and lots of them who hold truth as a standard worthy of their devotion.
<<In other words, it is not that you ascribe virtue to yourself (i.e., truthfulness), but that you impute vice (i.e., love of lies & deceit) to others!>>
I did not. I said the world of lies and deceit exists only at the invitation or tolerance of people who choose it for the sake of their own comfort. And, I tried to make it clear that I take no responsibility for that. In fact I fight against it even unto death. I never ascribed anything to my self except the intention to fight for truth. What is so bad about that, jbe?
<<How dare you? Are you so infatuated with yourself that you think you are the one and only repository of virtue? >>
Your comment that it makes me or anyone "infatuated with yourself" is not only insulting personally but dissappointing in that; its the kind of negative peer pressure used to sway people from making decisions based on principles of goodness.
If you think there are no people who love lies and deceit, then I will chalk it up to your naivete. Finally, I am sorry you no longer consider me worthy of a good discussion. |
