Ivana Trump To 'Step Aside' From Tel-Com Wireless

Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- Ivana Trump has decided to "step aside" from her role as chief executive and host of the 5th Avenue Channel after a report in Barron's suggested that convicted criminals were associated with the trading of the parent company's stock.

Shares of Tel-Com Wireless Cable TV Corp. (TCTV) immediately plummeted 40% following the news of Trump's exit.

"In light of charges and countercharges dealing with my association with Tel-Com, I have decided to step aside," Trump said in a prepared statement. "I want to be totally disassociated until the horrific charges against Tel-Com and its shareholders ... are cleared."

Tel-Com general counsel Sandy Simkin told Dow Jones that no one at the company knew of Trump's plans to step aside and that she was scheduled to meet with Chief Executive Mel Rosen Monday afternoon.

"This is a surprise to us," Simkin said. "Obviously she's upset about the Barron's story. She said she was concerned for her personal safety ... but I expect this will be resolved."

Although Simkin stopped short of saying that Tel-Com would resort to legal action, he added that Trump signed a pact with the 5th Avenue channel.

"She is legally obligated," Simkin said. "She has a contract with us."
