Loren, SVCN acts an intermediary to bring investors and companies in need of capital together. My knowledge of SVCN is limited to what I obtained from their Web page, although I did send an e-mail to invite their director to participate in this discussion. The Silicon Investors Group (SIG) was an idea that I proposed here because there are few places that can claim so many intelligent, knowledgable and active investors. The SIG discussion is an effort to stimulate interest in formulating a "virtual venture capital group", if you will, to participate in late stage or mezzanine financing. Technology advances so quickly that opportunities can be won or lost in minutes instead of days (of faxing and phone tag.) Information technology is sophisticated enough that most of the due diligence can be performed electronically. This is even more so true now that digital signatures and authentication technology will soon wide spread. With so many investors with a common investing objective, it should be possible to delegate and reach consensus on investment decisions. However, we will need guidance from professional venture capitalists if we are to bring this to fruition.
