Prisa Selected by Silicon Graphics for Bandwidth Solutions Program

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14--Prisa Networks, Inc. announced today it has been selected by computer vendor Silicon Graphics, Inc. (NYSE:SGI) as the first networking vendor to participate in its Bandwidth Solutions program.

Prisa will provide a tested, integrated Fibre Channel network for Silicon Graphics' newly announced Storage Area Network (SAN) architecture. The Prisa-based SANs will support both IRIX(R) and Windows NT(R) operating systems and will be marketed worldwide.

A storage area network (SAN) connects shared storage devices via a high-speed, dedicated network to computer systems. A centralized SAN uses a switch to connect multiple hosts to multiple storage systems, providing an unprecedented level of performance and scalability.

Silicon Graphics' Bandwidth Solutions program consists of best-of-class, third-party products. All Bandwidth Solutions (BWS) products are tested and fully supported on SGI platforms. Prisa joins current BWS members Ciprico, EMC and StorageTek , and is the first networking technology participant.

Based on Prisa's experience in providing high-performance Fibre Channel networks, and Silicon Graphics' experience with high-bandwidth servers, high-throughput storage and storage management, Silicon Graphics' SAN products will meet the requirements of the most demanding digital media and enterprise applications. Prisa hardware and software deliver the highest Fibre Channel speeds in the industry, switch-based scalability, simultaneous storage and networking capabilities, shared storage, storage consolidation, and centralized storage management

Prisa's NetFX hardware and software are an integral part of Silicon Graphics' SAN solutions. The interconnection between systems and storage will be Prisa-supplied Fibre Channel hardware and software products which run on any currently available Silicon Graphics computer. The products include host adapters, driver interfaces and high speed networking software. Prisa integrates these components with Ancor switches to promise a tested, working infrastructure for SGI customers. Prisa-supplied hardware and software enable users to achieve the fastest transfer times of any current Fibre Channel solution, the ability to improve workflow while file transfers occur in the background, and access to any node on the network as though it were stored locally.

According to John "Beau" Vrolyk, senior vice president and general manager, Computer Systems Business Unit at Silicon Graphics, Prisa is a key player in the company's SAN strategy. "Prisa has teamed with Silicon Graphics for several years as a premier supplier of Fibre Channel connectivity for our full line of IRIX servers and workstations. We're pleased to have Prisa as the first networking company to join our Bandwidth Solutions program. We look forward to having them as a cornerstone of our penetration into the emerging SAN marketplace."

Marc Friedmann, president of Prisa added, "We are extremely pleased that Silicon Graphics has chosen us to be a key player in their new 'best-of-class' SAN solutions. As a long-time Silicon Graphics partner, we are excited about the products that Silicon Graphics is delivering to this rapidly emerging marketplace, and look forward to working with them in the Bandwidth Solutions program to expand the delivery of SAN solutions."
