The two most important issues for the coming decades are : (a) ethnic relations and the peaceful resolution of conflicts among ethnic groups all over the world, and (b) the environment.

I don't see the Republican Party in its present form, playing any constructive role vis-a-vis either of these issues. Either it will boot out its extreme right-wing and evolve into a decent party, or it will become an outfit housing a bunch of nitwits who have no value other than what's known as "nuisance value".
