It's always a concern. According to the IBD article they are selling cable modems to TCI in an effort to diversify (just in Spokane WA).

I imagine they would want to expand the caller ID to other telcos.
The big risk in INOC is dependence on Bell South, Pacific Bell, US west Inc., and Southwestern Bell.
