Rational Strengthens Change Management Solution With Enhanced Team Support And Web Capabilities
New Version of Rational ClearQuest Supports Enterprise Databases, Enhances Email and Web Capabilities and Provides New Integrations With Other Development Life Cycle Tools
CUPERTINO, Calif., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational Software Corporation (Nasdaq: RATL) today announced Rational(R) ClearQuest(TM) 1.1, the latest version of its change request management solution. Rational ClearQuest shortens development cycles by unifying all team members in the change process, and helps project leaders evaluate the total picture of an application's quality relative to its release date. New features in Rational ClearQuest 1.1 extend these benefits to larger teams and to individuals often excluded from the change process. These features include enhanced scalability via Oracle database support, enhanced Web support for creating, saving, editing and accessing status reports, and the ability to submit change requests via email. Rational ClearQuest 1.1 integrates with Microsoft's Visual SourceSafe version control tool and many of Rational's life cycle products including Rational ClearCase(R), Rational DevelopmentDeskTop(TM) and Rational TeamTest 7. No other change request management tool integrates with such a full range of life cycle products to address the needs of today's cross-functional teams.
"ClearQuest's team collaboration capabilities are greatly strengthened with this release," said Luigi Iuliani, engineering tools leader at Tellabs. "With the new database support and improved Web interface, ClearQuest now provides a more scalable solution that will grow with our team and offers better Web-enabled options -- including access to all of ClearQuest's client functionality and flexible customization."
Rational ClearQuest enables development teams to reliably initiate and track change requests, including defects, functionality enhancements and document modifications. Fully customizable, Rational ClearQuest can be deployed to effectively streamline workflow, identify development trends and issues, and establish a custom change request management process. In addition to the Windows client, Rational ClearQuest 1.1 provides full functionality through a Web interface. The Web interface enables customers to submit, review and report on change requests from any Web client regardless of platform or location.
"Web-enablement helps involve an entire team in the change process," said Dick Heiman, an analyst at International Data Corporation. "ClearQuest now provides a rich set of features on the Web as well as the Windows client."
Features new to Rational ClearQuest 1.1 include:
Enhanced Web Support -- Rational ClearQuest 1.1 expands the capabilities of the existing cross-platform Web interface. Web users can now create, save, edit, and access change request status reports to evaluate the overall quality of their applications. The Web interface reduces support costs while advancing cross-platform interoperability to a larger community of users. Increased Email Support -- Rational ClearQuest 1.1 users can now submit and edit change requests via e-mail. This invites anyone with email access into the change process including customers, sales and strategic partners. New Database Support -- Rational ClearQuest 1.1 now supports a wider range of database offerings to integrate with an organization's existing infrastructure. Rational ClearQuest 1.1 features Oracle support to deliver greater scalability for large project teams. Sybase SQL Anywhere is now included with Rational ClearQuest 1.1 to provide out-of-the-box change request management for small to medium size development teams. Rational ClearQuest 1.1 continues to support Microsoft(R) SQL/Server and Microsoft Access. Integration with Microsoft Visual SourceSafe -- Rational ClearQuest 1.1 integrates with Microsoft Visual SourceSafe to provide users with the ability to associate defects with particular source file versions and then run queries on them to determine which bugs are associated with particular files. Users can ultimately use this information to determine what change requests have been satisfied from one iteration of a product to the next. These benefits are available from the Visual SourceSafe IDE, Developer Studio or Visual Basic. Integration with Rational Life Cycle Tools -- Rational ClearQuest unifies development teams through integration with Rational and third party products to optimize change request management for each team members' role. Integrations include: Rational ClearCase for powerful software configuration management. Rational ClearCase provides a secure and scalable repository to help distributed teams manage all assets associated with a software project including source code, requirements documents, visual models, test plans and product documentation. Teams can use Rational ClearCase and Rational ClearQuest together to associate change requests with versions of source code and then manage these relationships from one release to the next. Cross-product query support allows teams to easily understand which change requests have been implemented in a new release that were not present in previous releases. Rational ClearQuest 1.1 enables customers to leverage the ClearCase/ClearQuest integration from popular Unix platforms as well as from Windows NT. Rational DevelopmentDeskTop to allow users to automatically identify and submit run-time errors and memory leaks, performance bottlenecks, unused code or test script edits as change requests. Rational TeamTest 7 for testing the functionality of e-commerce, enterprise resource planning (ERP), client/server, Java, DHTML and Web applications. Rational ClearQuest 1.1 becomes the defect-tracking component of Rational TeamTest 7 to help development teams track the process of submitting defects or task requests, assigning bug fixes, incorporating changes into an application and reporting the successful implementation of these changes back to the entire development and management team. Pricing and Availability
Rational ClearQuest 1.1 is scheduled to be release in the first quarter of 1999 for $1,295 for a simple user license and $3295 for a floating/Web license. Rational ClearQuest and ClearCase are available together for $3295 for a simple user license and $4,795 for a floating license.
