I think you underestimate the potential of etailing. Niches are waiting to carved out for those that can simplify shopping and provide customers with a larger selection from which to choose (case in point CDNow, which, by the way, stomps on AMZN in that area). Such etailers can steal significant market share from established retailers (case in point AMZN vs. Barnes & Noble and others). I would agree with you that competition will be stiff, but would also say that competition is different for etailers - driven by the "virtual model" of the site, and not just price alone.

An example is CDNow's search capability and identification of related artists, and sound clips for many more CDs than the other etailers to name a few. I don't care if AMZN has lower prices (they don't) if I can't find what I am looking for easily and quickly.

I think the "not so pure" plays ought to be included (INTC, WCOM, CSCO) because they stand to benefit in a very big way in internet growth, and there is really no other way to "capture" that in the portfolio that I could find (I'm open to suggestions).

This is a great thread!

I don't currently own any of the stocks on my list, but am considering positions in all of them.
