This is actually a good idea, Robert. Instead of targeting zip codes or buying mailing lists, the online stores could keep down expenses by only sending catalogues to people who request them. This would also broaden their customer base. Sort of a reverse of Sharper image--start with the web site and gradually move into catalogues.
